This was written by over 100 CIMI’s from different cultures during the first IAIM general assembly held in Florida in 1992. The goal was to have a universal mission that incorporated Vimala’s vision, that all babies would receive nurturing touch right from the start of their life.
It may be noticed that the word ‘massage’ is not in the mission statement. Vimala’s massage routine is a CIMI’s main route of promoting nurturing touch, not all babies will receive massage. Sometimes nurturing touch can be given in alternative ways to massage such as holding, resting hands, containment holds.
The purpose of the
International Association of Infant Massage
is to promote nurturing touch
and communication through training,
education and research
so that parents, caregivers and
children are loved, valued and respected
throughout the world community.
